I’m Danny van Tuijl — educator, art director, and hair obsessive.
Refraction was born out of a frustration with vague education and a love for real creative growth.

Over the past 15+ years, I’ve worked across more than five countries — from small salons to international stages.
I’ve lived this craft from every angle: cutting behind the chair, creating collections, working backstage at fashion weeks, and mentoring salons across Europe.I opened my own salon early 2019, built award-nominated work with incredible teams, and found myself returning — again and again — to one thing:
the power of education when it’s honest, structured, and creatively sharp.Everything I’ve learned — the mistakes, the wins, the pressure, the growth — feeds into how I now teach, coach, and create with others.
